Uab over COASTAL CAROLINA by 3
With Conway perched a few miles from the Atlantic Ocean, we have a hard time believing that Coastal Carolina fans are going to pass up a late-summer Saturday at Myrtle Beach to bust a sweat cheering for the Chanticleers – especially after the banty roosters got cock-blocked by South Carolina in last week’s season opener, 49-15. But one loss does not a season ruin, and we think a time change to a 7:00 pm start tonight will give boosters plenty of time for a day at the beach before descending on Brooks Stadium. That and the fact that well-liked CCU head coach Joe Moglia will make his first appearance on the Chanticleers sidelines at home in well over a year. Invading UAB went 8-5 in 2017’s Resurrection Tour and the Blazers didn’t skip a beat to open 2018, blanking barefoot Savannah State last week, 52-0. With 17 starters back and a balanced offensive attack that saw Bill Clark’s team gain 285 yards rushing and 263 yards passing against SSU, the Birmingham Blazers could be something special this season. But we’ll see first if they past this test in a tough venue against a coach that doesn’t take well to being roughed up. The Joe-less Chanticleers lost at UAB as 1.5-point dogs last year, 30-23, and are getting quite a few more points tonight. Note that Moglia’s Coastal Carolina squads have averaged at least 34 PPG in every season he’s guided them. Be careful here.
