USF over Georgia Tech by 3
This promises to be a top-notch staredown between two coaches with the steeliest gazes in the FBS, South Florida’s Charlie Strong and Georgia Tech’s Paul Johnson (aka Ol’ Sourpuss). The Rambling Wreck blanked Alcorn State, 41-0, last week and Johnson’s Triple Option attack pounded out 439 rushing yards and 8.1 yards per carry. However, Tech’s 5-0 SU and 3-1 ATS record following a shutout win since 2000 leaves us wanting more after our database rats out the Yellow Jackets’ dismal failure as road favorites the last three years. Frankly, we feel the Bulls are getting little to no respect from the linesmaker. These guys have won 21 games the last two years and are 16-2 SU at home since 2015 (4-0 SUATS versus .750 or better opposition). As for HC Strong, he boasts a money-making 27-12 SU and 21-12 ATS record versus non-conference foes, including
against winning opponents. Charlie also needs to drive this point home to his team: after today, USF’s next five foes combined for a 1446 SU disaster last season. Translation? A win here and the Bulls could easily be unbeaten when they head to the Houston china shop in late October. With a conference opener at Pittsburgh up next for Georgia Tech, don’t be surprised to see the Wreck blow a tire or two in this highnoon showdown in Tampa.
