Appalachian St over CHARLOTTE by 10
If you’re a fan of underdogs, you really should have seen last week’s Appalachian State game versus Penn State. Down by 14 points in the final period, the 24-point underdog Mountaineers rallied for three unanswered TDs to take a 31-24 lead – before giving up a late score that forced overtime, where they lost by 7 points. As inspirational as that contest seemed to be for ASU, HC Scott Satterfield and company face a massive emotional letdown on Saturday when they go from playing the tits off a big-time program to an expected big-margin win over a Charlotte team that opened with a 34-10 decision over FCS foe Fordham. That victory here last week matched the 49ers’ win total for their entire 2017 season, so it should come as no surprise that eighth-year head coach Brad Lambert is currently feeling some intense heat on his backside. He’ll count on hopefully reviving a strong rush offense and stingy rush defense with a pair of new coordinators (49ers gained 221 rushing yards against Fordham and held the Rams to -9 yards rushing. We knew App State would be a big favorite today after its sparkling performance in Happy Valley, and we’re convinced it will take some time for the deflated Mountaineeers to get back up off the carpet in this evening’s contest. Remember, ASU is playing its second straight road game and has a home opener on tap with Southern Miss. State’s poor mark as road chalk of late seals the deal.
