TEMPLE over Buffalo by 13
The Owls looked like they had things moving forward under Geoff Collins late last season when they won 4 of their 5 season-ending contests, including a 28-3 thumping of FIU in the Gasparilla Bowl in St. Petersburg. That momentum took a nosedive after a seasoning-opening 19-17 setback to crosstown rival Villanova, losing city bragging rights in the process. Thanks in large part to a shaky effort from QB Frank Nuttile, Temple was outgained by the Cats, 405-251, and gave up a 30-yard TD pass midway through the final quarter contributing to the loss. However, with tons of experience on this year’s squad, we’ll look for a more inspired effort today at the Linc. They’ll need it against an up-and-coming Buffalo team under Lance Leipold, who won six national championships in Division III while at Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Bulls were the last team to beat Florida Atlantic in 2017 before Lane Kiffin took the Owls on a 10-game winning streak. Buffy beat Delaware State, 48-10, in their opener last week, despite the fact they gained only 354 total yards of offense (a 4-0 turnover edge did not hurt matters and QB Tyree Jackson threw for 6 TDs). Beware, Buffalo is not roaming into a pretty situation today with the Owls in a surly mood following last week’s shocker. We’re big believers in Collins and we’re not about to back off here.
