UL-Monroe over SOUTHERN MISS by 1
After a pair of 4-win seasons the past two years, ULM’s players will look to reduce the increasingly hot flames under HC Matt Viator’s seat today by keeping the mojo going as the experienced Warhawks – with 17 returning starters – debuted with a 34-31 win over SE Louisiana last week in which they tallied 554 yards of offense. The Warhawks will need more of the same here against a crowing Golden Eagles unit that has averaged 34 PPG and 470 YPG on offense the past three seasons. In Hattiesburg, head coach Jay Hopson has done a nice job with Smissy, winning 15 games while going bowling in each of his first two years on the job and was rewarded this off-season with a new 4-year deal. Red-shirt sophomore QB Jack Abraham opened the 2018 campaign going 21 of 27 for 242 yards with 4 TDs and no interceptions in a 55-7 win over Jackson State. Still, the Golden Eagles are a little light on returning starters this season (9 total) and that makes today’s task a tough one in this matchup of the haves versus have-not’s.
