- WILLIAM FAULKNER–WISDOM COMPETITIO­N

A prize of $7,500 is given annually for a novel; a prize of $2,000 is given for a book of nonfiction; three prizes of $1,500 each are given for a short story, a novella, and a novel-in-progress; and a prize of $1,000 is given for an essay. A prize of $1,000 and publicatio­n by Lavender Ink is also given for a poetry collection. The winners will also have excerpts of their work published in Double Dealer, the Faulkner Society’s annual online publicatio­n, and will receive travel and lodging to attend the 2019 Words & Music Festival in New Orleans in September. For the novel prize, submit a novel, up to three linked novellas, or a novel-in-stories (up to twelve stories total) of any length. For the nonfiction prize, submit a memoir, history, biography, or linked essay collection

(up to twelve essays total) of any length. The entry fee for both contests ranges by word count, from $45 for a manuscript of up to 125,000 words to $200 for a manuscript over 200,000 words. For the short story prize, submit a story of up to 7,500 words with a $35 entry fee.

For the novella prize, submit a novella of up to 10,000 words with a $35 entry fee. For the novel-in-progress prize, submit up to 7,500 words of the beginning of the novel, a one-page synopsis, and a

$35 entry fee. For the poetry collection prize, submit a manuscript of at least 50 pages of poems linked by theme or place with a $35 entry fee. For the essay prize, submit an essay of up to 2,500 words with a $25 entry fee. Submit all entries via e-mail; the deadline is April 1.
