The California State Fair has been host to the biggest and brightest of the Golden State for many years and 2015 proved no exception. Local sophomore Brittany Heffner was deemed worthy of this group as she represented Vandalia 4-H Club at the fair in July, where she received many esteemed titles.
Heffner has competed in 4-H for seven years, mostly showing club steers and heifers. The latter is what she showed at the state level where she won Reserve Champion All Other Colored, Reserve Champion All Black, Showmanship, Junior Champion Fe- male and Supreme Champion Female.
For Heffner to be successful at such a high level, it took working as early as 4 a.m. and as late as 11 p.m. Her hard work and preparation were rewarded as Heffner said she thought her heifer’s structure, look, show and styling technique were what put her ahead of her competitors.
Though Heffner represented Vandalia 4-H, she showcased talent from the Porterville community for all of the Golden State to witness.
“Anyone can put in hard work to win a big show. It’s just an honor representing our small town and showing what we can do,” Heffner said.
She is the daughter of Brad and Donna Heffner.
