Marvin C. Awbrey, 78, of Fresno passed away Monday, February 1, 2016. He was born January 14, 1938 to C. Arlo Awbrey and Lorena "Sis" Awbrey at home near Portervill­e, CA. He was the oldest of their four sons.

Marvin graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fresno State University. He later returned to Fresno State and earned his Master's degree. He worked for many years as a teacher, and later as an administra­tor, with the Fresno Unified School District. He was involved in many local, state and national educationa­l organizati­ons; holding leadership positions in many of them.

Marvin's love for travel started early in his career, chaperonin­g students to historical sites throughout the United States. He later enjoyed traveling the world with a group of close friends.

Marvin is survived by his brothers Larry L. (Lyn) Awbrey of Visalia, J. Arlo Awbrey of Strathmore and Donald C. Awbrey of Cottonwood. He is further survived by nieces Larianne (Blaine) Austin, Kim Fuller, Casey (Chandra) Awbrey, Lindsay (Eric) Awbrey, Gervase Awbrey and Corine (Brandon) Viera. He is also survived by a great nephew, four great nieces and many extended family and friends.

Uncle Marvin, as he was known by many, loved to cook and spend time with friends and family. He was an eternal optimist with a kind and caring heart. He will be dearly missed and never forgotten.

Memorial services are pending. In lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) Foundation or American Cancer Society.
