PHS picks up two wins in tournament

Portervill­e’s softball team defeated Orosi 21-1 in their final game of the Strathmore tournament Saturday. The team also defeated Lindsay 14-13 on Thursday before losing to Central Valley Christian 3-2 on Friday.

Josie Rios pitched all three games for the Panthers and in their game against Lindsay Cloey Loflin hit a triple.

Freshmen Cloey Loflin, Aleiza Lopez, Myranda Ledesma, Uniese Carrillo, and Trinity Soliz all played exceptiona­lly well for their first varsity tournament.

SHS goes 1-2 in tournament

Strathmore’s softball team fell 21-8 to Bakersfiel­d Christian on Saturday in their week-long tournament that they hosted.

Diana Medina did excellent behind the plate and Riley Sullins had great defense at first base.

The Spartans beat Robert F. Kennedy 21-1 on Wednesday after losing 21-4 to Granite Hills.

Against RFK, Diana Medina went 4-for-4, Kenzie Milhous while went 2-for-4 with a triple. Makayla Trujillo pitched five innings against Granite Hills and had nine strikeouts.

LHS drop two but win final game

Lindsay’s softball team defeated Farmersvil­le 23-9 on Saturday but lost to Central Valley Christian 7-3 and Portervill­e 14-13 earlier in the week.

Natalie Fries went 3-for-4 with four RBIS and Sierra Torres went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIS against Farmersvil­le.

After getting many of his players back from basketball season, head coach Izzy Torres said he’s very impressed with where his team is at.

BASEBALL Granite Hills splits doublehead­er

Brandon Clingerman only gave up three earned runs and one walk while striking out five batters in Granite Hills’ baseball team’s 14-3 win over Strathmore Saturday.

On offense, Clingerman went 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Calvin Duran went 1-for-1 with three walks. Duran and Clingerman each scored three runs.

Alonso Badillo

scored two runs and went 1-for-2.

Ronan Carabay went 2-for-2 with three RBIS and Paul Hererra was 1-for-3 with two RBI’S.

The team played really good defense and had good pitching for their first win of the season.

In their previous game, GHHS fell 2-1 to Robert F. Kennedy and Derek Steidley took the loss after striking out eight batters in 3 2/3 innings to start the game.

Paul Herrera had the Grizzlies lone RBI and went 1-for-3, while Steidley went 1-for-2.

The defense played an errorless game but couldn’t get a timely hit.

Monache 17 Mendota 1

Monache’s baseball team had nine RBIS and 10 hits in Saturday’s 17-1 win over Mendota.

Ben Smotherman had four RBIS while both Marlon Johnson and Lane Page each had two.

Page also had a single and Khris Takahashi went 2-for-4.

Reed Passmore got the win for the Maruders after striking out five batters and giving up one earned run.
