Evil

Editor,

With regard to the daily bombardment from various media outlets with stories of the evil being done in the name of fill in the blank, I would like to add my two cents and see if any interest can be got by it.

First off, evil has been with us since the beginning and it only seems to grow over time to such a degree that if we are not careful hopelessness, depression and a more or less disinterested state of mind can set in and before we know it we’ve bought in to the narrative being profferred which is everything is going to hell in a handbasket so whats the point in going on, give in and give up is what evil wants from us; our acquiessence to the notion that it is pointless to resist. Hooey...

The best evil can ever hope for is temporary halt in the progress made thus far.

We must never let ourselves be fooled into thinking mankind is doomed by the folly of others. Not so I say, not so. It is a ploy utilized by those who know in their heart of hearts if ever they stopped a moment to listen to the ever present voice of reason telling them to turn back from their evil ways and live for Gods sake.

Inevitably, the misguided souls intent on pursuing their own ends will choose death instead, consumed by their own evil intentions they burn from the fire raging in them spurred on by the rebellion that consumes them.

So let us rejoice and raise our voices to heaven as we praise the one who created us all and the world we live in.

We praise Him for his love of mankind and the promise he made more than 2000 years ago: Come and I will give you rest.

Don’t be the least bit anxious but rest assured despite the choas that surrounds you there is a place in heaven reserved for each one who chooses life over death.

The good that can come from so much needless suffering will be in our generous response.steven Anastasoff

Porterville London, Rome, Nice, Kyoto, Quebec, Seattle, St. Louis etc. I drove daily in L.A. for 40 years.

Porterville drivers scare me. Try backing out of a parking spot on Main Street and see who stops to let you out. How many times have you been cut off or had someone pull bang out in front of you coming out of Wal-mart or side streets?

Who pays attention to speed limits, school zones, or bicyclists? Blind, distracted or discourteous idiots share the road with you every day.

Do you think everyone is as careful a driver as you are? They aren’t.

We need to be constantly aware that almost no one is really giving their driving 100 percent of their attention.

Some drivers have been drinking, doing recreational drugs, taking medicines which say “Do not operate machinery,” talking to passengers, lighting a cigarette, sipping coffee, eating, using a cell phone, listening to a talk show, changing radio stations, thinking about politics or religion, yelling at misbehaving kids, are tired, sleepy, or just plain daydreaming ( a driving trance), or just plain never learned how to drive?

My advice is to expect someone to do something stupid each time you drive. You will seldom be disappointed. Bill Warner

Editor,

As I was driving on Henderson Avenue today I noticed a sign placed on the median with a large number and a bunch of smaller writing and what might have been a City of Porterville logo.

I can’t be more specific because I thought it might be a bad idea to stop in the middle of the street to read it. Which brings me to my point: What is someone at the City of Porterville trying to accomplish here? Does someone think it is a good idea for someone to slow down to try to read this? Does someone think it is wise to take drivers’ attention away from students who may be crossing the street? Does someone think it is a good idea for someone to jaywalk into the median to read the small type?

As for me, I think it would be a good idea to take down signs that are not important to traffic safety.
