United Way’s Call to Action June 21

-

TULARE — Where are the hand-raisers? The game-changers? The-stop-talking-start-doing-band-together-and-take-on-the-impossible-task-masters? United Way of Tulare County (UWTC), is organizing an aggressive countywide effort to canvas low-income neighborhoods and distribute door hangers containing vital information about the 2-1-1 program on United Way’s Day of Action.

Hundreds of United Ways across the world will bring thousands of volunteers together on June 21 in a Worldwide United Way Day of Action. Locally, the United Way of Tulare County needs teams to tackle underserved areas across the county to give information on how to access resources, services and opportunities these residents need.

“When times get tough, finding help should be simple — it is vital we get the information on 2-1-1 out to those who need it most,” said Rosemary Caso, UWTC executive director. “We will work together with the teams which are formed to make sure all the areas in need are covered.”

Caso said UWTC needs both team leaders and team members, with teams committing to a couple of hours on the morning of June 21, which is United Way’s Worldwide Day of Action. “In Tulare County our Day of Action has the potential to be our biggest volunteer opportunity ever,” explained Caso. “While each United Way creates meaningful activities centered on specific challenges, here in Tulare County we know it is critical to conduct strategic outreach efforts regarding the benefit of our 2-1-1 program.”

According to Caso, 2-1-1 services are accessible via a call, click, or search. “But, if the people who need the help most don’t know about 2-1-1, we can’t create the change needed,” Caso said. “Clean water? Domestic violence? Shelter? Food? Even human trafficking. 2-1-1 is available via phone, app, or web to connect people to resources and services they need. But, we need to get the word out.”

Caso feels United Way is uniquely positioned to create community solutions to engage people, companies, faith communities, government, labor, nonprofits and more to create community solutions which drive lasting change and results. “We want to invite everyone to come out and volunteer for United Way Day of Action and be part of the change,” Caso added.

This year, some 400 United Ways across the U.S. and in 20 countries are mobilizing volunteers for projects focused on education, income and health.
