PHS boys water polo beats EDHS

Steven Wilson exploded in the first quarter with four goals en route to Portervill­e High School’s 16-4 rout of El Diamante on Thursday evening.

Playing on the road, Wilson led the boys water polo team with seven goals total. Isaiah Allard and Grant Snyder followed with three goals each and Josh Halopoff scored two. Both Garrett Lamb and Trevor Riley had one goal apiece.

Head coach Mickey Goularte said young players like Lamb, Riley, Levi Davis, and Ryan Davis got a lot of playing time.

Garces 28 Strathmore 9

Strathmore boys water polo lost 28-9 on the road to Garces on Thursday in a non-league game.

Moses Bower led SHS with five goals, followed by Sam Wilkinson and Owen Patterson with two each. Clovis East 12 Monache 5

Monache girls water polo fell 12-5 on the road to Clovis East on Thursday evening in a nonleague game.

Emily Chapman and Marie Lobue each had two goals for MHS and Dalanie Beardsly had one. Goalkeeper Claire Schrein had eight saves.

Head coach Brandon Weaver said Emily Adame played very well and Rayleen Jensen had great defense.

Portervill­e 11 El Diamante 9

Portervill­e girls water polo defeated El Diamante 11-9 in overtime for a road win on Thursday evening in a non-league game.

Rosemary Chapman led PHS with five goals followed by Mallory Tate and Shyanne Rainey with two goals each. Both Alyssa Bodoh and Allie Whitten each had one as well. Johanna Scheer had 10 blocks in the cage.

GIRLS TENNIS

Strathmore 5 Sierra Pacific 4

Strathmore girls tennis defeated Sierra Pacific 5-4 on the road in their first East Sequoia League match on Thursday afternoon.

In singles, No. 1 Arelli Adams lost a hard fought match 8-6 to SP’S Kylee Leasure. No. 4 Lauren Cometa got a big 8-4 win. No. 5 Ariana Mata held strong for an 8-5 win. No. 6 Summer

Aqra played solid tennis and won 8-2. No. 2 Zoe Vasquez fell 8-2 and No. 5 Neha Reddy was close but lost 8-5.

Up 4-2 after singles, the Spartans No. 2 and No. 3 doubles team gave them the wins they needed for the victory.

No. 2 Cometa and Aqra kept their momentum from singles and won 8-5, while No. 3 Annabelle Rivera and Hennasey Mendoza played well together and won 8-0.

GIRLS GOLF

Sanger 267 Monache 289

Monache girls golf lost 267-289 to Sanger at River Island Country Club on Thursday in a non-league match.

Kaitlyn Choi was the low medalist for MHS after carding a 48. She was followed closely by her sister, Abigail Choi, who scored a 49.

Monache coach Dave Koontz said the team didn’t have its best day, but that this is what preseason is for, and he believes the Marauders will do better the next time around.

VOLLEYBALL

Exeter 3 Monache 0

Monache volleyball lost 3-0 to Exeter in a non-league game at home on Thursday evening.

Andrea Lopez led the Marauders with five kills, followed by Hailey Kelley with four and Madisyn Baxter with three. Taylor Chavez, Samantha Diaz and Hally Flynn each had one. Diaz also had eight assists.

Brianna Johnson had seven digs and Gabby Cox had six assists.

The set scores were 25-11, 25-16 and 25-9 in Exeter’s favor.

Cesar Chavez 3 Granite Hills 1

Granite Hills volleyball lost 3-1 on the road to Cesar Chavez on Thursday evening in a non-league game.

The Grizzlies lost the first two sets 25-15 and 25-13, but rallied back to win the third one 25-22. They lost the final set by a close 25-23.

Redwood 3 Portervill­e 0

Portervill­e volleyball lost 3-0 on the road to Redwood on Thursday evening in a non-league game.

Libero Kaila Keovilaysa­ne had some awesome digs and totaled 23, said PHS head coach Lisa Davis.

The set scores were 25-15, 25-12 and 25-13 in Redwood’s favor.
