Family and friends from Porterville to the Central Coast are mourning the loss of Dana Neece. The Porterville High School graduate was killed in an apparent murder-suicide.
Neece was a long-time real estate agent in Porterville before moving to Grover Beach a couple of years ago.
A relative discovered the bodies of 58-year-old Neece and 68-year-old Ron Rawlinson at 9:51 p.m. Thursday night in Neece’s home on St. John Circle in Grover Beach.
Police said the deceased individuals each sustained a single gunshot wound. A 9mm handgun registered to Rawlinson was found next to the bodies.
Based on an investigation conducted by the Grover Beach Police Department and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department, it was determined that the female was a victim of a homicide and the male suspect subsequently took his own life.
Family members say the two had been dating for a year, according to published reports. Both of them worked as real estate agents at Century 21 Hometown Reality in Arroyo Grande.
A sign was reportedly taped to the door Friday morning, saying the business was closed. Neece was set to celebrate three years with the company next week, according to the company’s CEO.
Neece and Rawlinson did not live together. Police are investigating the motive behind the killing.
Neece had worked as a real estate professional for more than 13 years, and spent the past three years serving nearly every city in San Luis Obispo County, according to her bio on the Century 21 website.
Neece had recently celebrated her birthday and returned to Porterville for her 40th class reunion.
