Bob Zimmerman

Bob Zimmerman passed away on October 27, 2017 in Portervill­e, CA. He was born on March 15, 1936 and was raised in Ducor and farmed there. He lived there until his death. He was the son of A.J. (Bud) Zimmerman and Margaret Zimmerman.

He went to Ducor School and has always kept in touch with his dear first grade classmates – Frank Menne, Don Hunsaker and Betty (Muller) Westbrook. He attended Portervill­e High and served as his class president his freshman year and junior year. He was elected student body president his senior year, 1954

He was active in Ducor 4-H and belonged to Portervill­e High FFA and served as FFA State Vice President. After graduating from Portervill­e High in 1954, he attended Fresno State College. There he served as President of the Block and Bride Club and belonged to the “Chi Beta Alpha” ag fraternity.

He Served his military time in the Army signal Corp in Nevada. After serving in the military he came back to Ducor to help his dad farm grain and raise cattle.

In 1961 he married Linda Hughes and they made their home in Ducor.

Bob served as a reserve Tulare County Deputy for several years and had many good memories working with deputies Jack Flores and Jerry Lee.

Bob Helped Jerry Swartzland­er organize the Ducor Volunteer Fire Department. Bob served as the organizati­ons Fire Chief along with several other men from the community. He also served as President for the Tulare County Volunteer Fireman and was named the Tulare County Volunteer Fireman of the year in 2000.

He served on the TCAG Board for 32 years. He enjoyed being able to learn about the workings of the county government and knowing the people that ran “his” county. He was involved in getting the traffic lights installed at Ave. 56 and Highway 65 at Ducor. He felt that the lights had probably saved many lives.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, “Bud” and Margaret Zimmerman; brother, Herb Zimmerman; nephews, Butch and Kim Zimmerman and his brother-inlaw, Hershell Ross.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda; his children, (that he adored) Jim, Ann and Donnie; sisters-in-law, Barbara Zimmerman and Cynda Ross; brother-in-law, Henry Hughes and wife Patricia; and Many nieces and nephews.

He loved going to Painters Camp, working with the cattle, being with his family and working on the class of ‘54’ reunions.

A service will be held at Myers Chapel in Portervill­e on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
