Mildred “Maxine” Baxter, a long-time resident of Portervill­e since 1955, passed away on Monday, October 30th, 2017. She was 89.

Visitation will be private for family at Myers Chapel in Portervill­e. A graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Portervill­e on Wednesday, November 8th, 2017 at 1:00 PM.

Maxine was born on February 9th, 1928 in Rush Springs, Oklahoma to John and Willie Dill and attended Cox City Schools with her sisters and brother. She met her husband Roy Baxter in Oklahoma in 1945. They married in 1946, came to California on their honeymoon, and made their first home in Visalia, where all of their children were born. Roy and Maxine moved to Portervill­e in 1955, where they spent the rest of their lives.

Maxine worked at Baird-neece for over 20 years packing oranges; she was active in local PTA and the Westfield 4-H Club for over 10 years. In her retirement she enjoyed gardening, making denim quilts, fresh fruit jam for friends and family, and caring for her grandchild­ren.

Maxine is survived by her son Geary and wife Cathy, grandson Tyler; daughter Sharon and husband Jim Gensheimer; daughter Debbie and husband Jimmy Starks, granddaugh­ters Kristin Starks, Ashlee and husband Matt Rice, great-grandchild­ren Hailee, Caleb, Dylan, and Emilee; brother Glen Roy Dill of Pilot Point, Texas and 16 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, grandson Preston Starks of Portervill­e, sisters Edith Cox of South Carolina, Norma Yerby and Patsy Dill of Oklahoma.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Eva Felix and all at Bella Home for their loving care of Maxine in her final days. They would also like to express their sincere thanks to her original caregivers Sonia Orozco, Larissa Rodriguez, and the team of In-home Senior Care Providers while she lived at Sierra Hills. And they would like to express their sincere thanks to the team from Optimal Hospice for their care and support this year.
