LHS runners 2nd at ESL meet

Lindsay High School’s boys and girls cross country teams finished second behind Corcoran in the East Sequoia League Championsh­ip meet on Wednesday at Sierra Pacific High School.

In the boys 5K race, Corcoran placed first with 18 points followed by Lindsay (48), Woodlake (83), Granite Hills (125), Sierra Pacific (129) and Strathmore (141). For the girls, the Panthers finished first with 23 points followed by the Cardinals (37), Grizzlies (87) and Tigers (102). Sierra Pacific and Strathmore’s girls teams did not have enough runners to score as a team.

The Cardinals have held onto the No. 2 spot all season, while LHS Mckaylie Caesar has remained undefeated in the 5K girls race. Caesar once again placed first with a 18 minutes and 36.3 seconds finish, nearly a full minute faster than the Panthers’ second place finisher Arlene Magana (19:48.5).

Corcoran swept the second-through-fifth spots and were followed by Lindsay’s Jeanette Ramirez (20:43.8) and Nancy Vasquez (21:00.8), as well as Granite Hills’ Elizabeth Hernandez (21:14.2), in sixth, seventh and eighth place, respective­ly. The Cardinals Belen Ferreira (21:25.3) placed 10th, followed by the Spartans’ Dagny Mcintosh (21:39.8) in 11th.

Corcoran’s runners took the first two spots in the boys 5K while Lindsay’s Victor Cisneros (16:08.4) was just two seconds behind to finish third. Granite Hills’ Jonah Flores (16:50.9), along with Lindsay’s Cristobal Vasquez (16:56.2) and Rafael Hurtado (17:00.6) took eighth, ninth and 10th place, respective­ly.

VOLLEYBALL

Exeter 3 Monache 2

Seventh-seeded Monache volleyball lost 3-2 at second-seeded Exeter in the quarterfin­al round of the CIF Central Section Division II Championsh­ip tournament on Tuesday.

The set scores were 25-22, 25-7, 27-25, 25-21 and 15-6. The Marauders (25-10, 7-3 EYL) won the first and third set, while the Monarchs (26-12) took the second, fourth

and fifth sets.

Liberty 3 Portervill­e 1

Seventh-seeded Portervill­e volleyball lost 3-1 at second-seeded Liberty in the quarterfin­al round of the CIF Central Section Division IV Championsh­ip tournament on Tuesday.

The set scores were 25-13, 25-13, 25-22 and 25-14. The Hawks (276) won the first, second and fourth set while the Panthers (17-13, 4-6 EYL) won the third.

Kingsburg 3 Strathmore 0

Eighth-seeded Strathmore volleyball lost 3-0 at top-seeded Kingsburg in the quarterfin­al round of the CIF Central Section Division IV Championsh­ip tournament on Tuesday.

The Vikings (24-9) swept the Spartans (1612, 8-2 ESL) 26-24, 2512 and 25-18 in straight sets.
