Veterans Day Run
Happy Vet- erans Day! Depending on what time you're reading this there are plenty of festivities for you to get out and enjoy. We kick off today with our annual Veterans Day Run. There's a 5K Run, 10K Run, 5K Walk and a Kids Race. Start time is 7:30 a.m. with day of registration closing at 6:45 a.m. The participants always love getting to run/walk down the middle of Main Street amongst all the military banners, flags and people claiming their spots for the ensuing parade. By the time the final medals and overall winner sweatshirts are handed out the parade will be about ready to begin.
Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony
The Porterville Area Ministerial Association begins the holiday season in Porterville with the annual downtown Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Nov. 24. The community is invited out to Centennial Park at 6 p.m. for an evening of musical entertainment and community singing. The program culminates with the lighting of the Christmas tree in front of City Hall followed by refreshments. Canned food donations and unwrapped toys for the U.S. Marines Toys for Tots will be accepted to benefit the community's needy families.
Porterville Golf Course
If you haven't heard about the latest specials going on at the Porterville Golf Course I highly recommend you pay golf pro, Casey Butler, a visit or give him a call at 784-9468. November is one of the nicest months of the year to play golf and the course is in great shape! You may also give the gift of green fees, range balls, or a pro shop gift card this holiday season.
If soccer is something you like to do then bring your ball out to the golf course and try some Footgolf. An 18-hole footgolf course lies within the Porterville Golf Course. Footgolf is played like golf, but the object is to kick the ball into an oversized hole in the fewest amount of kicks possible. Birthday parties, team and group rates, and fundraising opportunities all exist so give the golf course a call for all the details.
Tree Planting
A huge shout out to Beneficial State Bank for donating and planting 50 trees along the perimeter of the Sports Complex. Several employees came out Nov. 2 and spent the morning planting various types of trees that will provide shade and benefit the thousands of Sports Complex users for years to come. Parks (and all of the aforementioned) Make Life Better! Donnie Moore is the director of the City of Porterville Department of Parks and Leisure Services.
