Christmas Tree raffle to benefit Family Crisis Center

Women and children’s shelter to benefit

- THE RECORDER

A $5 donation could win somebody a decorated Christmas tree from the Family Crisis Center and in return help the center’s emergency shelter program.

Andrea Morales, of the Family Crisis Center, said this is the fourth year the raffle has taken place at the center.

This year’s tree has been beautifully decorated by Darrell Walters of The Flower Mill, who donated the ornaments for the tree as well as his time decorating it.

Anyone can buy a raffle ticket for $5 each and enter to win the entirely decorated tree as is. The raffle tickets will be sold until Thursday and the winner will be picked Thursday, Dec. 7.

If the winner lives in Porterville, Morales said Harris Home Furnishing will deliver the tree to the winner’s home.

Tickets can be purchased at the Family Crisis Center, located at 211 N. Main St., at Treasure’s Thrift Store, 88 E. Mill St., or from the center’s board members.

Board members include president Mickie Manning, vice president Robert Dempsie, secretary Debbie Estrada, treasurer Janice Castle, Robert Krase, Sharon Fusco, Karen Vanni, John Lollis and Donna Keeley.

Morales said the Family Crisis Center provides assistance with domestic violence restraining orders, courtordered classes such as anger management and child abuse intervention, parenting, safe care home visitation, rapid re-housing for individuals in danger of becoming homeless, permanent supportive housing for the chronically homeless and the emergency shelter program.

The proceeds from the Christmas tree raffle will go toward the emergency shelter program, which offers shelter for victims of domestic violence and women and children who are victims of homelessness.
