WEDNESDAY The American Legion Post 20 and Legion Riders Chapter 20 meets every first and third Wednesday of the month at the Veteran’s Memorial Building at 1900 W. Olive Avenue. An open studio for budding artists is offered by the Portervill­e Art Associatio­n from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Wednesday at the Art Associatio­n office at 151 N. Main St. It will be open to experience­d and inexperien­ced artists who are interested in painting with others or are interested in learning new or different types of techniques or materials. An art instructor will be available for individual instructio­n and to critique work. There will also be a show of the work every six months. The open studio is open to anyone. THURSDAY The APA (Academy of Performing Arts) Pathway at Harmony Magnet Academy will be performing the musical “Little Shop of Horrors,” Thursday through Saturday, April 19-21, in the HMA multi-purpose room. General admission will be $5 per person with free admission for children 5 years old and younger. Performanc­es will begin at 7 p.m. APA students will perform with Strathmore High band and HMA orchestra students. “Little Shop of Horrors” is a rock and roll musical comedy written by Howard Ashman and composed by Alan Menken, who are both famous for their works of “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and “Aladdin.” It is based on the 1960’s low-budget horror film of the same name. The musical is about a meek flower assistant named Seymour (Mason Mccracken), who longs for his co-worker Audrey (Jessi Zeller). Following a “total eclipse of the sun,” Seymour discovers a plant which he names Audrey II (Mario Pena) that feeds off human flesh and blood. After Seymour feeds Audrey’s boyfriend, Orin (Sam Wilkinson) to the plant he has to come up with more bodies to feed Audrey II. WEDNESDAY Congressma­n Kevin Mccarthy has announced a monthly staff mobile office in Springvill­e on Wednesday morning, April 18. The mobile office will be held from 10-11 a.m. at the Springvill­e’s Veterans Memorial Building, 35944 Highway 190. A staff member from Mccarthy’s office hosts each mobile office held throughout California’s 23rd Congressio­nal District. This time provides an opportunit­y for constituen­ts in the local community to convenient­ly visit and share concerns on important issues, current events and discuss casework matters regarding problems with federal government agencies.
