The Portervill­e High School girls tennis team defeated Reedley 6-3 on the road in Thursday’s non-league match to improve to 2-2 on the season.

In singles, Vanessa Madrigal won in a thirdset tiebreaker 10-5; Chloe Weaver lost her tiebreaker 10-5; Jewelia Maniss won 7-5, 6-2; Erica Palad won 6-3, 6-1; Zeila Rivera won 6-4, 6-1; and Lizbeth Martinez lost 6-4, 6-1.

Madrigal and Palad teamed up to win their doubles set 9-7 and Martinez and Hannah Walker also won 8-1. Weaver and Maniss lost their doubles match 8-5.

On Wednesday, Portervill­e lost 5-4 at Golden West.

In singles, Madrigal won in a third-set tiebreaker 10-3; Weaver lost in a third-set tiebreaker 10-1; Sierra Mitchell lost 6-1, 6-1; Palad won in a third-set tiebreaker 10-8; Rivera lost 6-0, 6-3; and Martinez won 6-3, 6-4.

In doubles, Madrigal and Palad lost the No. 1 match 8-5. Weaver and Mitchell lost the No. 2 doubles match also by 8-5 but Martinez and Walker won the No. 3 match 8-3.

“As you can see quite a few tie breaks, a very close match in this singles games,” PHS coach Lance Wallace said about Wednesday’s match. “No Jewelia Maniss due to a funeral for a family member. That hurt.”

Granite Hills High School girls tennis fell 8-1 to Tulare Union at home in Thursday’s non-league match.

Sara Lor and Delssy Vargas’ 8-3 victory in the No. 2 doubles match was the only win for the Grizzlies.
