Man sought for deadly California street race is extradited
A man charged with killing a 6-year-old girl during a Northern California street race has been extradited from Central America eight years after he fled the country.
Menlo Park police say Shannon Steven Fox was flown to San Francisco Tuesday night and then booked for vehicular manslaughter. It's unclear whether he has a U.S. attorney.
Authorities say Fox and another man were illegally street racing in Menlo Park in 2009 when his Ford Mustang ran a red light and struck a Toyota Camry at nearly 80 mph.
A woman in the Toyota was badly injured and her daughter died.
Police say Fox fled and eventually wound up in Guatemala, where he was arrested in 2016. He fought extradition but lost his final appeal to the Guatemalan Supreme Court in April.

LOS ANGELES
Street to be named for Barack Obama
A street in Los Angeles will be renamed Obama Boulevard.
The City Council voted Tuesday to rename Rodeo Road in honor of former President Barack Obama.
The change was proposed by council President Herb Wesson, who noted that Obama held a presidential campaign rally at a site along the street in 2007.
Other streets running through Wesson's council district are named after former U.S. presidents.
They include Washington, Adams and Jefferson boulevards. —
GILROY
Landowner arrested for allegedly killing cows over dispute
Authorities in Northern California have arrested a man who allegedly shot to death and buried 11 cows earlier this summer amid a dispute with their owners.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office says deputies arrested 54-yearold Marc Belluomini, of Fremont, on 11 counts of animal cruelty and other charges.
The office said Tuesday Belluomini had an agreement to allow two ranchers to let their cattle graze on his land near Gilroy but that a dispute prompted them to remove the animals from the land.
The Mercury News reports that while removing their livestock in June, the cattle ranchers spotted cattle remains sticking out of the ground and called authorities.
Belluomini didn't immediately respond to an email from The Associated Press seeking comment. —
HANFORD
28 barn owls killed by cars found along rural highway
State wildlife officials have found 28 dead barn owls that were struck by cars along a highway in central California.
California Department of Fish and Wildlife spokesman Peter Tira said Wednesday officers found the birds' carcasses this month on a two-mile stretch of Highway 41 in Kings County, near Stratford.
Tira says an investigation determined every predatory nocturnal bird had been hit by a vehicle along the road flanked by farm fields.
He says the raptors are attracted to the area because of a booming mice population.
Tira says barn owls hunt at night and are sweeping down the highway to grab their meal but are being hit by cars before they can carry it away.
He says officials are urging drivers to be alert at night, especially with wildlife. —
