Thelma Darlene Lyon Chambers
Thelma Darlene Lyon Chambers, 78, went home to be with the Lord on October 2, 2018 after a short illness. Thelma was born to Orville Hap and Johnny Bunger Lyon on February 27, 1940 in Phoenix, Arizona. She was the fourth of six children. Thelma moved to California at a young age where she attended elementary school and Fullerton High School.
Thelma married Paul Eugene Chambers on September 20, 1959. They were blessed with three children, Cathy, Caron and Donald. In 1981, the family moved from Buena Park, California to Lindsay, California. In Lindsay, Thelma began a 27 year career at Lindsay High School working as an instructional assistant and a career technical advisor.
Thelma loved Jesus, her family and everyone she came in contact with. She had a servant's heart and was a very giving person. She spent countless hours helping students at the high school. She also helped at the First Baptist Church in Lindsay and often drove the Church van to camps for people of all ages. Thelma was closely connected with the senior members of the Church and took the ladies to various functions and performances.
Thelma is survived by her sister Billie (George) Webber and brother James (Penny) Lyon, sisters by marriage Joann Lyon, Sharon Lyon, Carolyn (Lee) Skinner, Mary (Fred) Meredith and brother by marriage Ed (Jeri) Chambers. She is also survived by her children, Cathy (Frank) Moreno, Caron (Eric) Borba, and Donald (Angela Silveira) Chambers. In addition to her children, Thelma is survived by seven grandchildren, Jeremy Moreno, Christina (Jared) Gomes, Garrett Moreno, Brandi and Eric Borba, and Jacob and Ryan Chambers. Thelma was blessed with four great-grandsons, Paul, Frank, John and Jack Gomes. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Johnny Lyon, her husband Paul Chambers, her brothers Robert and Leslie Lyon, sister Donnie (Charlie) Hicks and brother by marriage Carole Bud (Dorothy) Chambers.
Once Thelma accepted Christ, she held strong to her faith and would share that faith with anyone she came in contact with. She lived her life serving others and praying for their wellbeing. Upon her arrival in heaven, we are sure she heard the Lord say, Well done, my good and faithful servant.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 20 at the home of Frank and Cathy Moreno. Arrangements have been made with Webb, Sanders and Smith Funeral Home.
