Recorder’s Angel Tree off to great start, 33 angels remain

Porterville Recorder - - FRONT PAGE - BILL PARSONS Porterville Recorder Publisher

The Christmas holidays are here. What a wonderful time of the year. On behalf of the Recorder family and myself, we would like to be among the first to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and most blessed 2019.

One of the many things I notice at this time of the year is how people react to the season. Everyone seems to be happier and smiling more, maybe even trying to be a little nicer than even they normally are. I also notice how thankful they are for family, friends and their many blessings.

We here at the Recorder are also very thankful for our wonderful readers and advertisers. We are especially thankful this year for all of the people that have stopped by our office and selected one or more of the little ‘angels’ from our tree.

This is the first year the Recorder has done an Angel Tree, and we are so very pleased at the response we have received from our community. Since last Thursday, we have had 50 angels adopted. That is amazing, but we still have 33 more girls and boys to go, and the deadline to help these children is coming up very soon. We need to have all the gifts back by December 14 in order to make sure they are delivered in time for Christmas.

So we would like to ask that if you have not already come in and picked up your angel, please do so. We want to make sure that no angel goes without being selected. In order to do so, we need your help — we have an angel just for you.

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. What makes it even more wonderful are people like you that give so that others will have a happier holiday. I have seen that giving spirit many times already since I arrived here as publisher of the Recorder a few months ago.

I believe that because of your kindness, many children will have a Merrier Christmas because you cared. These young people will have a reason to smile this Christmas because the good people of the Porterville area have once again shown their heart and love for others.

Please stop in today. Thirty-three more children need to know that someone cared for them this Christmas. May your life and your Christmas be blessed because you cared enough to help those that cannot help themselves.

Merry Christmas from our homes to yours.

Your Angel hangs on a branch of the Angel Tree in the Recorder office lobby.
