Five locals on ALL-CVC volleyball teams
Two local players from West Hills College Coalinga, as well as three from Porterville College, were named to the All-central Valley Conference volleyball team Wednesday.
West Hills’ freshman Andrea Lopez, a Monache High School graduate, was a first-team selection with a team-high 308 kills and was ranked third in the CVC with 3.80 kills per set. The outside hitter was also one of only four CVC players to register more than 300 kills and 200 digs (243).
As a senior at Monache, Lopez was selected The Recorder’s 2017 All-orange Belt Volleyball Player of the Year and had an area-high 413 kills her final season.
Former Porterville High setter, Taylor Ramos, was an honorable mention for West Hills Coalinga (10-13, 8-10 CVC). In overall play, Ramos finished 10th in the CVC with 399 assists and was also in a threeway tie for 10th-most aces (37). In conference play, Ramos finished ninth with 304 assists, putting her two assists behind teammate and former Strathmore High star setter, freshman Isabella Galang, who had 306 assists.
