“TAKE CHARGE! BUT… HOW?”

‘Tid-bits’ of Health

- Sylvia Harral Michele Stewart-buller

If we don't like what we see in the mirror… if we don't like the feeling of something under our skin, it may be time to remodel our eating habits or thinking patterns. What should we to eat or think? There is so much conflicting information out there.

“Salt is bad for us”, they say, but the whales and starfish have no edema or heart disease, and they live in salt water. “If no fat passes my lips, then no fat reaches my hips”, they say, but baby birds don't keel over with high cholesterol and heart disease from all the egg yolk they've been living on their entire life. “Heartburn is stopped with medications like Tums or Protonix,” they teach us, but why can't these medications stop it from ever happening again? With so many health professionals and so much research all looking for the answers, why have the cancer rates gone from 1 in 80 in 1919 to 1 in 2 in the year 2019?

Is there something missing? What do we need to know? Why do we still lack energy or have difficulty sleeping soundly through the night? Why do so many of us have some species of high cholesterol, blood sugar imbalance, pain, allergies, hot flashes, erectile dysfunction, etc.? Why are Americans walking toward all the “Big-ugly” diseases by the droves? Can we get off this disease pathway even if we're walking in the steps of all our relatives?

Answers to questions like these are but a drop in the bucket of information that you'll receive in the Foundations of Natural Healing

Workshops. They will begin on Monday, April 15, 2019, from 6-8 PM, at Family HELM Health Center, 379 N. Hockett in Porterville. There are about 10 workshops in all. They can be taken one at a time or one after the other until the whole series is finished.

In the workshops, we will train our body to stop creating excess fat, eliminate causes of pain, and slow aging speed. We will make yummy recipes that fill the tummy with nutrients the heart is dying to receive. We'll work together sharing our experiences, recipes, failures, successes, joys, and challenges.

This student amazes me with his/her ability to control negative thoughts in the midst of pain.

Student: “My health experiment this week was to maintain an attitude of gratitude. I chose this experiment because gratitude is one of those often overlooked emotions. I had developed a sinus infection which resulted in a very painful middle ear infection that was going to take a while to heal. Rather than wallow in pain and worry, I decided to distract myself with the millions of other things going right in my life.

The actions I took were basic. First, I recited orally everything I was thankful for at the moment. Next, I was thankful for the protective roof over my head and the comfortable bed on which I slept. I was thankful for the freedom and opportunities that await me each day and for my stable health. I was thankful for the people in my life, such as my family, friends, peers, and helpful instructors. Then, I would read what's going on in the world from my phone, or see the less fortunate people around me. I would remind myself that somebody out there will always have it worse than me no matter what my daily obstacles and occasional sufferings might be. I shouldn't complain. Instead, I should count my never-ending blessings. My pain is actually a blessing; for without the pain, I wouldn't know the value and amazing feeling of being pain-free and healthy.

My results were everything I expected from this experiment and more. In the process of staying positive and thankful for another day of sunshine, I pushed through the pain and attended all of my classes. I realized how much I had to be thankful for, and I shouldn't waste my energy taking things for granted. No matter how painful yesterday and today were, I looked forward to tomorrow where I would feel better and the pain would be gone. I always feel better afterwards. The day is brighter.”

Don't forget to mark your calendar for Monday nights for your next amazing educational experience.

Until then … TAKE CHARGE!! - Sylvia
