Persistence pays off for Carson Wallace
After four reserve titles, Wallace brings home Supreme Grand Champion Steer prize from Porterville Fair
Carson Wallace and his steer “Prince,” a black cross, won Supreme Grand Champion Market Steer at the Porterville Fair on Friday, May 17, along with FFA Showmanship and the Junior FFA Round Robin, where you show all the large animals in the ring.
“I've had four reserves in the past,” he said, “so it is really cool to finally make it to the top. I'd like to thank my parents for all their support through the years, along with my brother Caiden.”
Wallace is 15 years old and a sophomore at Porterville High School. He is a country Christian music singer and songwriter from Springville, who plays guitar and piano and plans to major in music business in college and have a career in the music industry.
“I'm playing at Big L Ranch in Woodlake, Saturday, June 1, and everyone is welcome to come,” he said.
He's played at the Crystal Palace in Bakersfield in April 2019, won the KJUG Radio Country Showdown in 2018, and plays at Nashville Nights in Solvang, which is an annual benefit concert in September. He also performs at restaurants and private events.
Besides music, his extra-curricular activi
ties at PHS include FFA, choir, water polo, and swimming.
His brother, Caiden, 12, also won Supreme Grand Champion Commercial Heifer at the fair with “Rosa,” a regular shorthorn heifer. He goes to Sequoia Middle School, and also plays guitar and piano. The brothers recently played music together at their church.
Carson Wallace plans to continue showing animals until his senior year is finished, and then he'll either attend college in Tennessee or in the midwest.
“Our parents are super supportive of what Caiden and I love to do, and we can't thank them enough. I'd also like to thank Travis Coy for everything he's taught me about cattle and all the help he's given.”
Carson had some advice for all the young people in animal husbandry and any other endeavour: “Hard work and determination pays off in the end.” Wallace has also learned a lot about music and songwriting from his uncles Art and Marv Green, in Nashville, and Solvang, California.
Craig Wallace, Carson's father, is the manager of the Lindsay-strathmore Irrigation District, and mother Anne-marie is a homemaker and marketer for a health and wellness business.
