No Bosa as 49ers practice in Youngstown before Bengals game

- By CAM INMAN

SANTA CLARA — Defensive end Nick Bosa, after battling through an ankle issue in his rookie debut, is not practicing today as the 49ers work out at Youngstown State.

Bosa’s condition will be updated after practice.

This was the first of three consecutive days the 49ers are working out at Youngstown State, ahead of Sunday’s visit to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Bosa played 39 of 70 defensive snaps in Sunday’s 31-17 victory at Tampa Bay.

After that debut, Bosa said: “Definitely going to be sore but I’ll be fine. I’m getting my ankle back. Ankle sprains are something you have to work through a little pain at the beginning, but I’m happy I got through the whole game and started to pick it up at the end and got the win.”

Other observations during media access:

— Defensive back Jimmie Ward is practicing with a cast over his right hand, having had surgery on a finger last week. He did not play in Sunday’s 31-17 win at Tampa Bay. Tarvarius Moore started in his place at free safety.

— Wide receivers Trent Taylor (foot) and Jalen Hurd (back) remained out of practice.

— Defensive end Deforest Buckner received treatment on his left big toe during warmups. He missed two practices early in training camp because of a toe injury.

— Linebacker Mark Nzeocha fell ill during warmups, perhaps due to the heat (90 degrees, 50-percent humidity, feels-like 96 degrees).

— Left tackle Joe Staley is having a veteran rest day, a weekly ritual in recent seasons.

— The 49ers practiced on the artifical turf soccer field across the street from Youngstown State‚äôs football stadium. Local police and team security kept students and the general public from watching practice and taking pictures.
