Spartans overpower Tigers 8-0
Strathmore High School’s girls tennis once again showed their strength against an East Yosemite League team with an 8-0 sweep of Delano in Thursday’s non-league match at home.
The Spartans (3-3) won three matches 8-0 including two singles matches from No. 3 Taylor Simonich and No. 4 Abby Miller.
Also getting past their opponents in singles was No. 1 Neha Reddy (8-6), No. 2 Hennasey Mendoza (8-4), No. 5 Lauren Leyva (8-3) and No. 6 Lena Bennett (82).
In doubles, the No. 2 duo of Mendoza and Simonich didn’t lose a game and won 8-0. Reddy and Miller won the No. 1 match 8-5 and No. 3 Sara Costa and Jessica Tolentino won 8-6.
Strathmore opens East Sequoia League play Tuesday, Sept. 17 at home against Corcoran.
Monache High School volleyball swept Strathmore 3-0 in Wednesday’s nonleague game at home. The Marauders won the sets 256, 25-16, 25-16 (3-0) W
For Monache, Gabriella Cox had 23 assists, 10 points, two aces, five kills, eight digs and one block. Kristen Watson had eight digs and two aces. Tia Jules had eight kills and two blocks. Hally Flynn had 10 kills.
Porterville 3 Granite Hills 0
Porterville High School volleyball defeated Granite Hills 3-0 in Wednesday’s nonleague road game. The Panthers won the sets 25-16, 25-10 and 25-7.
For Porterville, Jaci Patterson had 25 assists, eight digs, four aces, one kill and one block. Kaila Keovilaysane had 10 digs, seven aces and two assist. Analy Medrano and Victoria Dabney had eight kills apiece and Madison Johnson had six. Kaitlyn Keovilaysane had six kills, three digs and one ace.
