• The Portervill­e Historical Museum, The Museum’s Summer hours are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 10 am - 4 pm. The museum is located at 257 N. D Street. Admission is $5.00 for Adults, $1.00 for Student and children six under are free. Friends of the Museum and Sponsors are also free. • Building Club is the last Saturday of each month from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the community room on the second floor of the Portervill­e City Library. Builders of all ages and skill levels are welcome.

• Sergeant Shepherd, the new costumed mascot for the Portervill­e Police Department, is available to appear at youth-oriented meetings and events. The mascot’s purpose is to spread the motto — “Stand Up and Speak Out!” According to the Police Department, Shepherd will be encouragin­g the community to “Stand Up” for family, friends and community, and “Speak Out” against drugs, bullies and crime. • The Portervill­e Youth Center offers free recreation for youths during the summer. The center is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and is located inside the Heritage Center at 256 E. Orange Avenue. The Youth Center offers a stimulatin­g environmen­t for youths ages10 to 18 and there are no registrati­on fees or monthly costs. The Youth Center’s game room features pool and pingpong tables, game consoles, foosball, board games and more. Members can also enjoy arts and crafts, organized sports and regular adventure trips. Access to the Margaret J. Slattery Children’s Library located inside the Heritage Center offers students a computer lab with Internet access. The other thing going on at the Heritage Center is Summer Day Camp. • Music On Main Street concert series concludes with the screening of Halloweent­own from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Centennial Park across from City Hall. Bring some popcorn and enjoy a movie with family and friends.

• First Christian Church holds Breaking of the Bread women’s ministry every Friday night at 5:30 p.m. The breaking of bread celebratio­n includes potlucks, worship, craft projects and fellowship. These meetings take place at First Christian Church located at 1020 N. Prospect Street. For more informatio­n, call 784-1975.

• The Strathmore Town & Country Club’s Annual Luncheon & Fashion Show Saturday, November 2nd. It will be held in the Strathmore Memorial Building, 23124 Avenue 196, Strathmore, at 12 noon. Strathmore Town & Country Club is a women’s group that has supported the community of Strathmore for over 100 years, drawing members who live in Strathmore, former residents of Strathmore, or others with a connection or interest in being involved in this community. The annual Fashion Show is our primary fundraiser for our scholarshi­p fund. A $1000 scholarshi­p is awarded to a college-bound senior from Strathmore High School every May. A delicious salad luncheon will be followed by fashions from Macy’s and Maurices. There will be something for all ages. Our models range in age from teens – 70’s. Models include Julia Gillett, Grace Loeffler, Kat Gillett, Lisa Duncan, Karen Pearson, Kathy Chavez and Norma Lemay. Tickets are only $20.
