PHS Drama Dept. offers ‘Night of Improvs’
The Porterville High School Drama Department will present “A Night of Improvs,” Friday, January 24 at 7 p.m.
This single performance will take place on the stage of the Drama Room (A7) on the PHS campus at 465 West Olive Avenue. Ticket prices are $3 for adults and $1 for students, with the ticket-holder able to witness the madcap antics of some of PHS’S finest improv artists as they compete for the comedy crown.
Porterville audiences who have watched the T.V. show “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” will already be familiar with the format and some of the exercises. Often comic in nature, “improv” is fun for both actors and audience.
Throughout the evening, competing teams of young actors from the PHS Drama Department square off in a series of performance exercises with titles such as “Taxi!,” “The Dating Game” and “The Servant-master Disaster.” Each exercises pits different students against new opponents and requires quick thinking as the scenarios progress.
No scripts are used, nor are lines memorized; the students make up the dialogue, create relationships and resolve problems on the spur of the moment. Points are awarded to the teams at the end of each exercise based on the votes of the audience, and at the end of the evening, the team with the most points wins. Audience participation isn’t only welcomed, but expected, and the evening’s entertainment will be familyfriendly.
Tickets are available at the door starting at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call 559-7827279.
