PHS beats Centennial, now 20-2

Portervill­e High School girls basketball is on a five-game win streak after beating Division II Centennial of Bakersfiel­d in the MLK Showcase at College of the Sequoias Monday.

Madison Johnson led the Div. III Panthers with 13 points and six steals. Jewelia Maniss had 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Nseije Ortiz had 11 points and five steals. Jazlynne Medrano finished with 12 points.

Portervill­e is now 20-2 on the overall season and 3-0 in the East Yosemite League. The defending EYL champions host Delano (4-14, 0-3 EYL) tonight and travel to Monache (13-4, 2-1 EYL) Friday.

GIRLS SOCCER Granite Hills 4 Farmersvil­le 1

Granite Hills High School girls soccer defeated Farmersvil­le 4-1 in Monday’s East Sequoia League game at home.

Brianna Rodriguez led with three goals while Tanya Gorgonio had one. Kacey Hernandez and Jaquelin Zamora had an assist apiece. Decsy Lopez finished with 10 saves at goalkeeper.

Last week the Grizzlies lost 3-2 to Farmersvil­le on Thursday with Rodriguez scoring two goals. Yadira Hernandez also had one assist and

Lopez had nine saves.

On Jan. 10, Granite also beat Woodlake at home 2-1. Rodriguez had one goal, Yadira Hernandez had a goal and an assist, and Lopez had four saves.

BOYS SOCCER Farmersvil­le 2 Granite Hills 0

Granite Hills High School boys soccer lost 2-0 to Farmersvil­le in Monday’s East Sequoia League game on the road.

“They played better than us,” GHHS head coach Pedro Gonzalez. “I mean they beat us to every single ball. We have a couple of chances in the second half but we don’t put it in and on a fast break they scored the second goal. So they deserve it, they deserve the win. Overall they played better than us the whole game.”

BOYS WRESTLING GHHS Christie, Pulido place at MOHS invite

Granite Hills High School wrestlers, Shane Christie and Brandon Pulido, placed at the Mission Oak High School Invitation­al over the weekend.

Christie placed second at 170 pounds while Pulido was fourth at 195.

On Thursday, Granite Hills hosts Lindsay in an East Sequoia League dual at 5:30 p.m.
