Cardinals escape Wolves, 52-50

Fourth-seeded Lindsay High School boys basketball defeated 13th-seeded Wonderful College Prep 52-50 in Tuesday’s CIF Central Section Division V opening-round game at home.

Issac Munoz scored five points in the last 1 minute, 10 seconds of the game and led the team with 23 points. Julian Avalos also finished with 16 points.

On Thursday, Lindsay hosts fifth-seeded Corcoran at home. The two split their East Sequoia League matchups this season.

Strathmore 67 Firebaugh 63

Eighth-seeded Strathmore High School boys basketball came back to beat ninth-seeded Firebaugh 67-63 in Tuesday’s CIF Central Section Division V opening-round game at home.

The Spartans were down 22-8 at the end of the first quarter and trailed 29-22 at half but outscored Firebaugh 45-34 in the second

half for the win.

William Reece led the team with 17 points, Jaylen Oats had 13 and Angel Topete chipped in 11. Owen Patterson also finished with nine points and 13 rebounds.

SHS head coach Justin St. Clair said Topete had a good second half and hit two key free throws late in the game. The coached added that Oats also went 3-of4 from the free throw line late in the game and the team played better on defense against an aggressive Firebaugh team.

On Thursday, Strathmore travels to topseeded Fowler for a quarterfin­al game.

Redwood 67 Monache 64

Eighth-seeded Monache High School boys basketball lost 67-64 to ninth-seeded Redwood in Tuesday’s CIF Central Section Division II opening-round game at home. Trayvon Bradford led the Marauders with 25 points.

Monache finished the season second in the East Yosemite League with a 7-3 record. They were 15-13 on the overall season.
