Those interested to meet at 9:30 a.m. this morning
The first First Responders Cruise will be held in Porterville this morning.
The beginning of another Porterville tradition may be in the making today. The first First Responders Cruise will be held in Porterville this morning.
Those interested should meet in the parking lot where Tulare County Mental Health Services is located behind Jack In The Box on Henderson. At about 10 a.m. the cruise will begin.
The cruise will make its way through Porterville and is scheduled to end up at the Porterville Police Department at 11 a.m. After all those in the cruise arrive at the Porterville Police Department, everyone will exit their vehicles and gather near the main entrance on the sidewalk/ grass area.
A Facebook post for the event stated its hoped those attending will be accompanied by the Porterville Police, Tulare County Sheriff’s Office, Porterville City Fire Department and other firefighters, the California Highway Patrol, Imperial Ambulance and Sierra View Medical Center personnel. The cruise is being held to support all those organizations and all first responders and health workers.
The cruise will conclude with a prayer for the well being and safety of first responders and health care workers.
A Facebook post for the event asks only that the American flag be flown. The Facebook post does
state those participating are encouraged to place signs on their vehicles expressing their appreciation for first responders and health workers.
“Absolutely NO political flags or attire, and NO protesting! WE are doing this to show our love and appreciation to our first responders,” the Facebook post stated.
The Facebook post also calls for those participating to be respectful and to follow all laws, not to run red lights and not to speed. The Facebook post stated the cruise will be done at the speed limit and maybe even slower so all the vehicles can stay in a pack.
“This run is to show love for OUR country and for the ones who are there for us at a first call on a moment’s notice, the ones on the front line everyday!” another Facebook
post about this morning’s event stated. “Let’s show them that WE support them and LOVE their services to OUR community especially during this time!”
That Facebook post also stated motorcycle groups are also encouraged to participate in the cruise.
“It’s time to show love and support to all our first responders!” that Facebook post also stated. “They are the ones we rely on everyday!!!”
