- PORTERVILLE PARKS & LEISURE

CREATING COMMUNITY THROUGH PEOPLE, PARKS AND PROGRAMS… SAFELY!

Parks and Leisure Services sure have missed all of its fine patrons the past few months. The good news is staff has been busy planning some new programs, as well as some old favorites with new modifications. Staff relishes the opportunity to showcase ultra creativity in offering all we are working on. We’re taking every precaution possible to be able to offer some activities for the community while first and foremost keeping safety as the No. 1 priority. From temperature checks for all staff and participants upon arrival, to wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, providing extra sanitizing stations, and thorough disinfecting, we’re trying to cover all the bases.

CITY POOL

The pool facility is sparkling clean and awaiting your arrival. Only allowing 25 percent of maximum capacity has really made for easy social distancing on the deck and even in the water. There’s a new online reservation system for those wanting to assure their spot prior to arrival. This is highly recommended with the new limited capacity in the pool. Visit www.portervillepool.getomnify.com to save your spot. Ninety-minute Recreation Swim sessions are offered throughout the day for the low price of $1 ages 2-12, and $2 ages 13 and up. You may also call 791-7695 to make your reservation.

LAP SWIM

Are you finding it difficult to swim laps these days with the lack of pools being open? Lap Swim is offered Monday-friday 7:308:30 a.m. and 8:30-9:30 in our pool at 97 N. Park Drive. It has been fun to see some top notch youth to college age swimmers getting their workouts in. Admission is $3 and with only 13 spots available each session advanced reservations are strongly recommended. For reservations check out www.portervillepool.getomnify.com.

KIDS CROSS COUNTRY

Inspired by all of the great young runners in our community who hopefully you’ve had the privilege of catching a glimpse of running around the city, we’re super excited to introduce our brand new Kids Cross Country program. Geared for ages 9-12 this sixweek program will have your child gaining some valuable exercise, as well as receiving education on the importance of stretching and eating/drinking healthy. COVID-19 adaptations include groups of 10 or less, social distancing during warm-ups and on the runs, and a team based Cross Country Meet to cap off a fabulous six-weeks. The cost is only $20 which includes a sport-tek shirt and prizes at the meet. Practices are Mondays at 7 p.m. at the golf course and Saturdays at 9 a.m. at Veterans Park. Register online at www. ci.porterville.ca.us, or in person at our Centennial Plaza office, 15 E. Thurman Ave.

SUMMER DAY CAMP

There are still limited openings for our Summer Day Camp held at the Santa Fe School Gym which we’re only allowing the first 20 children who register to attend each week. Supervision is provided Monday-friday 7:30 a.m,-5:30 p.m. All of the safety measures mentioned earlier apply, in addition to a 10:1 ratio with those 10 children never participating with the other children throughout the week. Breakfast and lunch is provided and the cost is only $95 per week. A full slate of activities is planned to fill up each day. Register online at www.ci.porterville.ca.us, or in person at our Centennial Plaza office, 15 E. Thurman Ave.
