We beg you, please distract Horowitz as much as possible

- By Charles Whisnand cwhisnand@portervillerecorder.com

It’s that time of year again when the Fearless Prognosticators put their reputations on the line to see who again will reign as champion.

Yours truly has to admit I don’t want the title of “Best Last Place Picker in America” again. Yes, yours truly finished at the bottom of the standings in last year’s contest.

But I’m determined to not let that happen this year. So instead of taking about 30 seconds to consider my picks, I will take a minute or so.

The same suspects from last year are back again this year, so of course David Horowitz is relishing the chance to three-peat as he’s the two-time defending champion.

Back to challenge Horowitz, who owns Horowitz Jewelers, is yours truly, Dustin Della of Suncrest Bank, J.R. Flores of J.R.’S Barbershop and Mary Quijas, the co-owner of Juicy Burger.

Of course all of these businesses when possible encourage your patronage. The businesses are obviously affected by the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions like everyone else. But depending on the conditions that allow them to open, they obviously would love to have as much business as possible while requirements due to COVID-19 are followed at the same time.

J.R. Would like to let everyone know his barbershop is open for business by appointment only. You can download the app Booksy which serves hairstylists and barbers to make an appointment. Those coming to the barbershop must also bring a face covering.

And again while my other fellow challengers to Horowitz certainly welcome your business when possible, I’m sure they’ll understand when I make this plea.

I made this plea last year, but alas it was too late in the season as Horowitz had taken the lead in our contest. So I’m making this plea at the start of the season.

Again under the current conditions, give Horowitz as much business as possible. His jewelry store is open. We need as many customers as possible to frequent his establishment to distract him. We can’t allow him to three-peat.

With the college football season partially postponed due to COVID, we will be picking mostly NFL games this year. Our contest will again last through the NFL season, which is beginning this weekend. So for 17 weeks we will do everything in our power to dethrone Horowitz.

We will also sprinkle in some of the best college football games as we go along with our picks throughout the season.

So here’s wishing all of you a blessed week. And may the best person win. As long as it’s not David Horowitz.
