To Black Bear Diner for its successful blood drive. Every year on the last Wednesday of September Black Bear Diner on Olive hosts the blood drive in which it provides a free pie to every donor.
To the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation for honoring fallen firefighters. The week of September 26 through October 3 is Light The Night Red for Fallen Firefighters Week. Landmarks, fire departments and homes all across the country are being lit up red in honor of fallen firefighters. More than 100 fallen firefighters will be honored during the Memorial this weekend in Emmitsburg, Md., including Porterville Fire Captain Ray Figueroa and Firefighter Patrick Jones, who were killed in the February 18, 2020 fire that destroyed the Porterville Public Library.
To all the volunteers who participated in the National Public Lands Day event at Success Lake, working to clean up the lake’s campground.
To Antonietta Hogan, who’s moving to Idaho. Hogan spent more than 40 years as a dance instructor for Porterville Schools, teaching thousands of students in areas such as folkloric dancing.
To Lindsay Unified School District learning facilitator Lana Russo-jimenez, who teachers math at the district’s alternative education sites. She will be featured on ABC Channel 30’s first special in its Children First series, Children First: Amazing Educators to be aired at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
To Tulare County Animal Services and the International Agri-center for all their work in helping with the evacuation of all the animals that had to be evacuated as a result of the Windy Fire.
