PC baseball falls to Cerro Coso

The Porterville College baseball team fought against the Corro Coso Coyotes in its first game of the season. A brand new coach for the Pirates is head coach Joseph Buchanan, who put together a mostly brand new team for this year’s season. After a hard fought game the Pirates would succumb to the Coyotes 11-2.

Jason Kramlich was the starting pitcher for the Pirates and allowed two runs in the first inning but also struck out five over the first two innings

Kramlich continued to do good work for the Pirates as he would go on to strike out all three Coyotes batters for a fast top of the second.

The game continues slowly with two consecutive innings of no runs on either side. Dan Clancy came close at the bottom of the fourth with a strong hit to the outfield that was just barely caught by the Coyotes as the outfielder tumbled after the catch. Cerro Coso went on to take a 6-0.

Kuhron Patrick would be next up for the Pirates as a pitcher, taking the seventh in hand, who got a strikeout to end the inning.

At the bottom of the eighth the Pirates would secure their two for the game. J.T Edmunds would be first up for the Pirates as he walked. Kaden Twyman was up next and with one, two, three balls down he’s hit by the fourth pitch and walked to first. Clancy also walked to load the bases.

Chris Ortega walked to force home Edmunds. Luca Dinacola was up next and he slammed the ball it was caught and failed to score a run. Aiden Lessnau stepped up and was served ball after ball to walk him to force Twyman take home.

PC still had the bases loaded with one out but failed to score any more runs.

“COVID has made things tough for sure.” Buchanan said “It took a lot to make our team this season. We only had 11 from the previous year so we’ve had to make up three times that with fresh talent.

“Our practice games being closed didn’t help, we only got to play Corro Coso in the preseason and then again now. But with all that said more games are going to show that

this team can shine. We have good hitters here, and a strong scrimmage potential. With my lead pitchers out for two more weeks it’s gonna be slow but with our teamwork and practice we’re gonna see a different team by the end.”
