11 books by local students chosen as Exemplary

11 of the 18 books chosen as Exemplary in the Tulare County Office of Education’s Young Authors’ Faire were written by students in local schools.

Springvill­e Elementary School was well-represente­d with six books written by its students chosen as Exemplary. In the Exemplary Fiction category, “Wolves The Escape” written by Springvill­e sixth grader Lillian Shepard was chosen.

In Exemplary non-fiction, “What are Alpacas” written by Springvill­e sixth grader Saira Macdonald and “How to Make a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich” by Springvill­e eighth grader Connor Machado were recognized.

In Exemplary Illustrati­on, Springvill­e eighth grader Kylie L. was recognized for “Captain Diego.” And in Exemplary Graphics/images, Springvill­e seventh grader Bella Y. for “You Can Never Make Old Friends” and Springvill­e sixth grader Kasandra G. for “Tommy’s L’manberg Experience” were honored.

Also honored in Exemplary Fiction were Sra. Martinez and Mrs. Smothermon’s kindergart­en class at Jim Maples Academy for “My Alphabet Book.” Their kindergart­en class was also honored in Exemplary Class Book for “Nuestro Libro del Abecedario.”

In addition, Rockford Elementary School students Addison Noble, Michael Barbera, Jared Gadiano and Peyton Borba were honored for “A Compilatio­n of Life in a Snow Globe” in Exemplary Class Book.

Oak Grove School had two books honored as well. Second grader Danica V. was honored in Exemplary Graphics/images for “All About Koalas” and second grader Xiomara A. was honored in Exemplary Illustrati­on for “Foxes.”

This week, organizers of the annual Young Authors’ Faire announced 18 books had been selected as exemplary works. Nearly 100 students from 10 schools developed 48 books for the faire.

Every year, the Tulare County Office of Education invites students to participat­e in the faire. The event offers writers in grades K -8 a chance to showcase their writing and illustrati­on. In recent years, the books submitted to the event have been published online.
