Sierra View seeks public input on draft redistricting map

- THE RECORDER recorder@portervillerecorder.com

Sierra View Medical Center is currently working through the redistricting process to adopt new boundaries for each of the five district zones that comprise the Sierra View Local Healthcare District Board. Every 10 years, organizations are required to redraw the lines that comprise their district zones to reflect how the local population has changed. I

Sierra View Medical Center invites the public to provide input regarding the district’s new map. Sierra View has worked with Davis Demographics to provide a draft map for community review.

The current draft, known as “Scenario C,” takes into consideration the increase in population in each district zone using data from the latest census. Scenario C provides a view of what the boundaries of each district would be like.

The thick dotted line serves to see where the district lines are currently at. The map is available for review online by visiting www. sierra-view.com/redistricting. The website is bilingual in English and Spanish. A map created with geographic information system tools is also available for review at the redistricting website.

Community members are welcome to submit comments about the proposed map. They’re also welcome to provide drafts of their own map proposals. Community members may use their digital map drafting tools of choice or provide a manual hand drawn paper map (scanned in) for consideration. Please submit all comments and map ideas by 4 p.m. Thursday, May 5.

Community members are asked to provide insights about the map in relation to the a number of areas, including:

How does the Scenario C draft district map address topography? How does the Scenario C draft district map address geography? How does the Scenario C draft district map address communities of interest?

The proposed map has a deviation of population in the five districts of 5.6 percent, which is less than the 10 percent that’s recommended.

Those who want to provide feedback or information on providing drafts of their own map proposals can go to www.sierra-view.com/ redistricting. Those can also email feedback to marketing@sierra-view. com. Those who need assistance in providing feedback can call 7913922.

The Sierra View Board is hosting a community meeting on redistricting. Those can participate in the meeting online or in person at the Sierra View Board Room at Sierra View Medical Center.

The meeting will be held at a time still to be determined on Thursday, May 12. Those who want to participate online should go to www. sierra-view.com/redistricting on the day of the meeting.

The Sierra View Board plans to adopt a map the final map for redistricting at the May 12 meeting based on comments received by May 5.

The map that’s adopted will go into effect for the 2022 election. Districts that will be up for the 2022 election are District 5 represented by Kent Sorrells and District 3 represented by Ashok Behl.

Sierra View Medical Center stated it thanks the community for the chance to gain more insights about the community’s thoughts and ideas regarding healthcare district.
