- By MATTHEW BRADY

With a bright and sunny day the Monache softball team and the Tulare Union Chiefs came together for a conference game.

The Marauders have had a good run this year with their overall record being 13-7-1 and 5-2 in league.

Morgan Hunter pitched all seven innings of the game for the Marauders. With 77 pitches Hunter held the Chiefs in check. The Marauders hit well with Bryton Loflin, Hunter, and Jessica Batres landing the runs for their team with Hunter earning two.

The first inning was close for the Marauders, Hunter struck out each of the first three Chiefs she faced.

The second inning is where the Marauders started to gather momentum. With their turn up to bat, the Marauders were looking to do their best. Loflin took the bat next and she slammed it into the outfield. As she ran past first and onto second the Chiefs dropped the ball and Loflin ran all the way to third. Monea Posadas followed her teammate up and hit a nice pitch to bring Loflin home and land herself at first.

With the second inning coming to a close the Marauders 1-0. After retiring the Chiefs, Hunter was up to bat..

With almost no time taken she landed a hit and ran all the way through to third base. Mendoza took first. Loflin was up and with a wild pitch Mendoza took second. Loflin landed a hit on her second pitch bringing in Hunter making the score 2-0.

The bottom of the fifth led to the last two runs for the Marauders. Sereena Lemus took to the batters box and hit her first pitch out into the outfield and landed on first.

A close hit from Batres came up with a fly ball, almost outing Lemus. However, as the Chiefs lost hold of the ball mid throw, Batres and Lemus were both be safe on first and second. Loflin was up next with two outs on the board and two teammates on the base and the pressure was on.

Loflin had her share of foul balls, after two she slammed a pitch all the way into left field bringing in both Batres and Lemus for two rins and the Marauders final margin of 4-1.

“We did good, our offense was great and we just kept improving.” Monache Dave Koontz said. “We would have won five to won if one of our runs wasn’t overruled. But it’s OK.

“Ana (Rivas Arianna) and Jessica (Batres) just snagged every ball that came their way. Our pitcher Morgan Hunter had only 77 pitches today, that’s very very low. She only had two real hits the whole game. We also have a game against Mission Oak soon. I know we can do it, the girls really have a great attitude for the game and we just try and take it one game at a time.”
