Nettie (Jencie) Marshall

-

Nettie (Jencie) Marshall, age 105, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home on November 29, 2022. She is survived by her son, Larry Dale (Phyllis) Marshall, daughter in law, Pam Marshall, eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Roy Marshall, son, Don Marshall, and many others.

Nettie was born in Killeen, Alabama on November 4, 1917 to John and Malinda Hale. A few years later the family moved to Poteau, Oklahoma, where she would grow up and help her mom take care of the family. She met Lee Roy in Knothole, at a church function under a Brush Arbor. They married in Poteau, Oklahoma on September 7, 1940. They then adventured to California eventually landing on Prospect Street in Porterville, where they would live, love, grow, and begin their family. She prided herself in her family first, then, after her boys were grown, found joy in working for the Burton School District, where she was a cook.

We are all on borrowed time but Nettie transcended time, she was an anomaly. She delivered her oldest son Don and was here for the birth or her newest great-great grandson Elijah, spanning almost eight decades apart. In 105 years you are liable to see many highs and many lows, Nettie saw some things come and a lot of things go. She brought a smile so soothing that as soon as you entered her home all the problems you had simply disappeared due to that smile. She was the epitome of joy and you could not disrupt her peace, she wouldn't allow it. On the surface she was a sweet and pure spirit, but deep down she was a fighter. To survive for 105 years and smile the entire way through, even on the hardest days, you have to be a fighter and made of resilience, a true definition of Nettie.

Nettie had a love for the outdoors and was an incredible cook in one of the coziest kitchen ever. She once loved to crochet. Later in her life, she enjoyed sitting in her chair and reading her People magazine. Walking into her house you would catch Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune on the television or you might even catch Nettie spicing it up a bit with an episode of the Bachelor on her newly upgraded Smart TV. This was a big feature in her household for a woman who came from the era of "if it's not broken, don't fix it." She loved and took care of everyone with zero hesitation until it was time for her to be taken care of. She will be dearly missed.

Visitation for Nettie is Wednesday, December 07, 2022 at Myers Funeral home, 248 North E Street in Porterville from 3pm-7pm.

There will be a graveside service for Nettie at Hillcrest Cemetery, 1013 E. Olive Avenue on December 08, 2022 at 10am followed by a gathering and luncheon at Myers reception center across from Myers on North E Street.
