Lucille Virginia Duysen

-

Lucille Virginia Duysen went Home to the Lord on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at the age of 95.

Virginia was a caring and loving woman who, throughout her lifetime, devoted herself to her religion, family and the people around her.

Virginia was the middle of three children born on April 12, 1928, in Long Beach, California, to George and Lucille Virginia Harrison. Sharing the same name as her mother, she was called Virginia instead of Lucille like her mother.

Her family moved a lot, and she attended twelve different schools in her childhood. They mostly lived in the Long Beach area, but she also lived in Santa Maria, Bakersfield, Taft and Spur, Texas.

She graduated from Excelsior High School in Norwalk California in 1946. When she was in 8th grade, she noticed a young man that she thought was rather special. It was at their high school graduation that Glen Duysen asked her to marry him.

Virginia and Glen were married on September 5, 1948, and had 74 wonderful years together. They made their first home in Corvallis, Oregon where Glen was attending Oregon State University.

Virginia worked as a secretary while supporting Glen at college. After college, they moved to Medford, Oregon for Glens work in forestry.

In 1949 they welcomed their first child Larry, followed by Kent, Ann and David. Virginia was an excellent mother and wife and devoted her life to her children and husband. Many vacations were spent with the family camping and boating at Shasta Lake, Lake Howard Prairie and Lake of the Woods in Oregon.

In 1967 they moved to Porterville, California and Glen started a sawmill in Terra Bella, CA. They joined the United Presbyterian Church in Terra Bella and truly enjoyed their church family. Virginia was a deacon in the church, helped with Vacation Bible School, sang in the church choir and they were both involved with the Clipper Club at the church. Virginia, being the wonderful giving person that she was, became a Pink Lady at Sierra View Hospital. She served over 30 years as a Pink Lady.

Virginia and Glen had a love of travel and visited over 37 countries. They also enjoyed over 30 years traveling in their motorhome. They visited many states including Alaska and traveled to Canada, Nova Scotia and Mexico in their motorhome. They belonged to a Rotary RV fellowship as well as the Fresno Floaters RV Group.

Virginia is survived by her husband Glen of Porterville, children Larry (Kathleen) of Castle Rock, WA., Kent (Sammie) of Porterville, Ann (Tom) Brodersen of Visalia, and David (Paulette) of San Anselmo.

She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

The Family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to her caregivers, Belia, Joanna,

Maria, Mirna, Araceli and Lizzie. And also, a big thank you to those from American Care Hospice.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 10:30 am at Terra Bella United Presbyterian Church. Internment to be private at Hillcrest Cemetery in Porterville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Terra Bella United Presbyterian Church or American Care Hospice in Visalia.
