Alta Vista School ASB President Julissa Contreras, Library Tech Noemy Galindo hold two new books the Alta Mira Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution donated to the school library. With them are Mascot Aquilla, Giovanni Nava, and ASB Vice President Griff Cordero. ASB President Julissa wrote a thank you letter to Alta Mira Chapter. The new books are titled I Survived and They Called Her Molly Pitcher. The same books have been gifted to Hope School. This is Alta Mira's outreach to the libraries and students of these schools. The students now have the chance to read about the American Revolution. I Survived is written by Lauren Tarshis, the latest installment of the New York Times bestselling I Survived series. Eleven year old Nathaniel Fox runs away from his cruel uncle only to find himself in the middle of a blood soaked battlefield, fighting for his life. He's propelled into the American Revolution. During a thrilling and dangerous journey, he finds himself in New York City on the brink of the biggest battle yet to be fought. They Called Her Molly Pitcher was written by Anne Rockwell and illustrated by Cynthia Von Buhler. It tells the story of Molly Hays who followed her husband to Valley Forge for the winter. There she listened, learned, and cared for the men. The following July, on a scorching day, the Battle of Monmouth occurred. She brought water to the thirsty men. They called out “Molly- T y pitcher” when they wanted some water. This is how she became known as Molly Pitcher. Her husband was wounded during that battle; after tending to him, she continued the battle by firing his canon when he was unable.
