Jill Rafaloff, of Forest Hills, Queens, and Michelle Sontarp, of Manhattan, met when they joined the same law firm directly out of law school more than 30 years ago. They’ve been friends ever since. Jill has been solving crosswords since college, Michelle for six years or so. The two began constructi­ng during the pandemic. This is their New York Times debut.
