Candidates file for Somersworth mayor, city council positions
SOMERSWORTH — The race for mayor in 2023 will be between City Councilor Matt Gerding and newcomer Kitara Maxey.
They were the only candidates to file for the mayor’s seat as the city’s election filing period closed Thursday. Mayor Dana Hilliard, who is in his fifth twoyear term, previously announced he would not run again.
Gerding has said he wants to build on progress in Somersworth and keep costs low. Maxey, who said she works as a financial strategist and is a political newcomer, has said she wants to help the city and residents become financially independent, citing goals that go beyond the policy reach of local government.
There will be several contested races for City Council and one for the at-large School Board seats, with five candidates competing for four spots.
