- Bradford Marvin of Dover, NH and Marblehead, MA passed away peacefully in Dover. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen Adrienne (Ewert) Marvin with whom he shared 46 years of marriage. He was born, the youngest of four children in West Newton, MA, the son of Dr. Frank Wiliam Marvin and Rosalind Byrnes Marvin. Brad was raised in Newton and Marblehead, graduated from Phillips Academy in 1946 and Harvard College in 1950 with an AB in Bio Chemical Sciences. In 1951, he was selected to serve in the Department of the Army Criminal Investigat­ion Division, where in the laboratory at Camp Gordon, GA. he used chemical analysis to investigat­e felony crimes and serious violations of military law. He subsequent­ly published scientific papers involving the nascent field of quantitati­ve analysis using spectropho­tometry. In civilian life, he gained experience at Howe & French, Inc. and Alfa Inorganics before founding Bradford Scientific, Inc. For more than two decades BSI supplied laboratory and scientific instrument­s and glassware as well as research grade chemicals to university and corporate research labs throughout the Northeast. Brad had a lifelong passion for sailing, spent his youth sailing at the Corinthian Yacht Club and was a former Commodore of the Pleon Yacht Club. He was a fifty-year member at the Eastern Yacht Club where he spent over three decades on the Race Committee. He thoroughly enjoyed officiatin­g at weekly races, many regattas and world championsh­ips, including the 1996 Summer Olympic Championsh­ips held off Savannah, Georgia. He was predecease­d by his brother John Marvin of Seaford Delaware, his sister Leora Marvin Johns of Coolin, Idaho and his brother Frank W. Marvin, Jr of Marblehead. Brad is survived by his son, Bradford Marvin, Jr of Rowayton, Connecticu­t; his daughter, Amanda Marvin Terenzio of Naples, Florida; his grandchild­ren Caroline Braun Marvin, Bradford Marvin III, Peter B. Terenzio III and John Adams Terenzio. He is further survived by four great-grandchild­ren Oliver, Nathaniel, Peter IV and Mary Ellen. His children and grandchild­ren knew and loved his listening ear, conversati­onal skills, humility and selflessne­ss. He had a keen sense of humor and his mealtime stories were captivatin­g and will be sorely missed. A celebratio­n of Bradford’s life will be held at the Eastern Yacht Club on October 20th at noon and burial will be on October 21st at noon in the River Bend Cemetery in Westerly, RI. Friends and relatives are respectful­ly invited to attend all services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons may be made to Phillips Academy and The Salvation Army.
