Juvenile arrested in fatal shooting
A juvenile has been arrested in connection with the killing of a recent Homewood-Flossmoor High School graduate who was shot to death inside a Glenwood home last month, police said.
Glenwood police announced Monday via social media they had taken a suspect into custody in the Oct. 27 slaying of 18-yearold Cleonte Henderson, of Glenwood.
Henderson, who had worked as a truck driver for BNSF Railway since shortly after graduating from high school in May, was shot multiple times during an altercation inside a home in the 300 block of Longwood Drive, police said.
His mother, Crystal Henderson, said she’d learned from a witness that two people had jumped her son inside the home, which was described to her as a “party house,” and stolen $150 from him prior to the shooting.
Her son had left the home after being robbed, but returned later in an effort to get his money back, she said.
At some point, a person wearing a mask entered the home, shot Cleonte twice in the chest and ran back out the door, his mother said.
The 16-year-old suspect, whose name has not been released, was arrested Monday in unincorporated Schererville, Indiana, with the assistance of the Lake County, Indiana sheriff ’s office and the St. John Police Department, authorities said.
The teen is being held at the Lake County, Indiana, Juvenile Detention Facility while awaiting extradition to Illinois, police said.
Glenwood police did not immediately respond to requests for more information on the arrest. Officials from the Indiana agencies that assisted Glenwood confirmed the arrest, but said they were unable to share additional details.
