After seeing Gov. Eric Holcomb’s coronavirus executive order, Crown Point Mayor Dave Uran canceled the city’s 13th annual St. Patrick’s Day parade.

Holcomb, on Thursday, announced restrictions on nonessential gatherings of more than 250 people, applying to social, community, or similar gatherings in an effort to minimize any exposure to the public.

“This is a time when we all have to do our part for the health of our community,” Uran said.

The parade, which began after Uran came into office in 2008, typically features about 30 participants with crowds packing the downtown square.

Crown Point Councilman Andrew Kyres said he understands many folks were anxiously anticipating the parade.

“It’s always a great event,” he said.

“However, it is in the best interests of our residents, employees, vendors, participants and visitors that the parade not proceed at this time.

Councilman Chad Jeffries said in this situation, “I believe to err on the side of caution and follow the directives.”

The State of the City address by Uran, scheduled for Wednesday will be postponed to a later date yet to be determined.

“We will be rescheduling our State of the City address once the directive from the state has been lifted,” Uran said.

Crown Point will offer drivethru corned beef and cabbage dinner service beginning at noon Tuesday at the Crown Point Fire Station. Adult meals are $10 and senior meals are $9.
