Palat strikes twice as Lightning take 3-1 lead

Ondrej Palat scored twice, Andrei Vasilevski­y made 29 saves, and the Lightning beat the Bruins 3-1 on Saturday in Toronto to take a commanding 3-1 lead in their secondroun­d series.

Victor Hedman also scored a pinball, bouncing goal on Bruins goaltender Jaroslav Halak, who has started every game since starter Tuukka Rask opted out of the playoffs in the middle of the first round. Halak, who was pulled last time out Wednesday, allowed three goals on 26 shots in Game 4.

The Lightning have won three in a row since losing the series opener. Palat has four goals in that time, including the Game 2 overtime winner.

Auto racing: Scott Dixon and Takuma Sato repeated their 20-lap shootout from the Indianapol­is 500 a week ago, with Dixon reversing the finishing order by winning at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Ill. Dixon had 20 laps to chase Sato down, but a late caution ended the race under yellow.

Golf: Justin Walters doubled his lead to two strokes with a 3-under 69 in the third round of the U.K. Championsh­ip on the European Tour in Birmingham, England. Walters is 12 under par overall at The Belfry and has led after every round so far. He is chasing his first European Tour title after being runner-up three times. Benjamin Hebert (70) and two-time Major winner Martin Kaymer (66) share second.

Horse racing: Jockeys riding in the reschedule­d 146th Kentucky Derby have to arrive by Monday and then quarantine upon returning to their home tracks, just one of many changes forced by the coronaviru­s pandemic. The out-of-state riders already had to take a COVID-19 test last Monday and have the results reviewed by Churchill Downs. Their next required test comes Monday at the track, followed by a third test on Sept. 3.

NBA: Former Trail Blazers C Cliff Robinson, one of the NBA’s best sixth men who also starred at UConn, died Saturday at 53. No cause of death was given, though Calhoun said Robinson had a stroke 2 1⁄ years ago. His streak

2 of 461 consecutiv­e games played with the Blazers still stands as a franchise record. “His personalit­y and energy were unmatched, and his contributi­ons on the court were unmistakab­le,” the Blazers said in a statement. Robinson helped the Blazers reach the NBA Finals in 1990 and 1992. He not only never missed the postseason in Portland but hardly missed any games at all, playing all 82 in each of his first five seasons and never appearing in fewer than 75.

NFL: The Dolphins traded LB Raekwon McMillan was traded to the Raiders along with a 2021 fifth-round draft pick in exchange for a fourthroun­d pick.

Tennis: Novak Djokovic tied Rafael Nadal’s record by winning his 35th title at a Masters 1000 tournament, overcoming a sluggish start to beat Milos Raonic 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the Western & Southern Open final in New York and remain unbeaten this season. Victoria Azarenka won her first tour title since 2016 when Naomi Osaka pulled out of the women’s final because of a left hamstring injury.
