Beautification of medians along 109th Avenue in Crown Point is slated to begin this week, said Robyn Pappenheim, a project manager with DVG Team Inc.

The project is substantially complete and open to traffic, though contract work will continue, Pappenheim said at the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting Wednesday morning.

Masters of Turf LLC will begin working on medians Tuesday, and an inspection with a contractor is scheduled for the same week, Pappenheim said.

“As long as the weather holds up, that’s when we’ll see them out there,” Pappenheim said over Zoom.

The board approved a pay request of $617,121.98 for work.

Also at the meeting, where part of the board was in-person and two members participated over Zoom, Mayor David Uran said there has been progress on an extension on Mississippi Street going south and another extension to 113th Avenue, and hopefully both connections will be completed this year.

Uran said on Tuesday night he was told work will also begin on the connection of the bridge of Delaware Parkway going north in order to connect 105th Avenue.

“Two major connections going north and south on both sides of the 65 corridor will be hopefully in play here in the next month or two,” Uran said. “We’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.”

Uran said 109th Avenue will remain open until next year when the city begins to expand Iowa Street.

Uran also briefly spoke about COVID-19, stating there were no updates on any COVID-19-related topics, and the city was still in stage 4.5 along with the rest of the state.
